The Newman sub-centre of St John Ambulance is to get a refurbished ambulance, thanks to a Lotteries Commission grant announced by Racing and Gaming Minister Norman Moore.
Mr Moore said that the grant of $15,000 would be matched by a special grant from St John Ambulance.
The Minister said that the Lotteries Commission grant was part of an extra $100,000 provided this year to buy eight ambulances for remote centres where local fundraising was very difficult.
Mr Moore said that the overall grant of $703,000 would go towards buying or refurbishing 23 ambulances for country services, building projects at seven country sub-centres and heart monitors for 13 ambulances.
Of the total grant, $475,000 would go towards ambulances, $149,000 for buildings, $61,000 for heart monitors and $18,000 for a radio upgrade at Goomalling and ambulance equipment at Sandstone.
The other country sub-centres to benefit included:
Ambulances - Boddington Bridgetown, Chittering/Gingin, Cunderdin, Dunsborough, Kalbarri, Kondinin/Hyden, Northam, Pemberton, Pingelly, Ravensthorpe, Roebourne, Tambellup, Wongan Hills, Wyndham with special allocations to Bullsbrook, Cue, Northampton, Port Gregory, Ravensthorpe, Southern Cross and Wyndham.
Building projects - Australind, Boddington, Brunswick, Lancelin, Nannup, Northampton/Horrocks Beach and Port Gregory.
Heart monitors - Bridgetown, Broome, Bruce Rock, Darkan, Dumbleyung, Exmouth, Gnowangerup, Kondinin/Hyden, Northam, Northampton, Pingelly, Toodyay/Bolgart and Wyalkatchem.
Mr Moore said he was delighted that the Lotteries Commission had been involved in such a worthwhile project since 1988.
