Attorney General Peter Foss today welcomed the appointment of Master Craig Sanderson to the Supreme Court of Western Australia.

Master Sanderson, who was formally appointed on November 14, was sworn-in today.

He will fill the vacancy left by the recent death of Master John Adams.

Master Sanderson graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1975 and was admitted to the Supreme Court of WA the following year.

He almost immediately travelled overseas and worked in London with Holman, Fenwick and William, where he dealt exclusively with maritime law.

Upon returning to Perth, Master Sanderson was a founding partner of Pullinger, Sanderson and Workman where he dealt mainly with commercial litigation, mining law, corporate law and insurance litigation.

He joined the Independent Bar in June, 1988.

Before his appointment, Master Sanderson was a member of the Law Society Council and the treasurer of the WA Law Society.

"I have no doubt that given Master Sanderson's well-deserved reputation in the legal profession and his wide experience in several facets of the law, he will carry out his duties as a Master with distinction," Mr Foss said.

"He comes to the Supreme Court at a most opportune time, given his background interest in litigation reform in the Supreme Court.

"I am sure that all Master Sanderson's experience and knowledge will be invaluable to WA courts as they move towards greater efficiency and accountability without reducing or impairing judicial independence."
