Mike Harris appointed to top Transport job

Transport Minister Murray Criddle has confirmed the appointment of Mike Harris to the position of Director General of Transport.
Mr Harris has been Acting Director General of Transport since September 1998.
Mr Criddle said he was pleased to have Mr Harris leading the department.
"Director General of Transport is a key role in the economic development of the State, and I'm glad to say we will have an outstanding manager heading the department," the Minister said.
"I look forward to working with Mike in the continuing development the State's transport system."
Prior to joining Transport, Mr Harris was with Western Australian Treasury, initially as Assistant Under Treasurer (Budget), and later Assistant Under Treasurer (Financial Management).
Born and educated in Hobart, Mr Harris graduated in economics at the University of Tasmania.
He spent 11 years with the Tasmanian Treasury, largely in the budget management area, his last two as Director of Budget Management.
He was appointed Director of Works, attached to the Tasmanian Department of Transport, in 1993, with responsibility for corporatising the Tasmanian Government's civil construction agency, Works Tasmania.
Mr Harris held the positions of Deputy Secretary, Transport Infrastructure and Deputy Secretary, Policy Development and Co-ordination with the Tasmanian Department of Transport.
He is married with two daughters.
