Premier Richard Court today announced that George Cash had asked to be relieved of his Ministerial responsibilities and his position as Leader of the Upper House of Parliament on medical advice.

"Following months of extensive tests, Mr Cash has been advised to reduce his workload to help overcome a blood disorder," Mr Court said.

"Mr Cash has been an outstanding Minister and he has been one of the quiet achievers of this Government.

"It is hoped that he will soon regain full health and again take up his position and responsibilities in the Ministry following the next election.

"In the meantime, it is my intention to have his Ministerial responsibilities shared between Graham Kierath, who will take up the Lands portfolio and Kevin Minson, who will now be responsible for Mines."
