Minister elected to position of Leader of Govt in Legislative Council
30/4/96
Employment and Training Minister Norman Moore has been elected to the position of Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council.
The vote of upper house Liberal Party members took place this afternoon, more than a week after former Leader of the House George Cash announced he would resign from the position due to illness.
Mr Moore said he was honoured to be elected by his peers to the position but saddened by the circumstances under which the position became vacant.
"George Cash was an extremely competent and capable leader who displayed strength, wisdom and character in fulfilling the role," he said.
"I look forward to serving the people of Western Australia in my new role and making an ongoing contribution to the Legislative Council."
Mr Moore said he would work to ensure that the business of the House proceeded smoothly and harmoniously
