Minister ready to discuss plan for paid beach side parking with Cottesloe Cncl
6/1/98
Local Government Minister Paul Omodei said today that he would be happy to meet with the Town of Cottesloe to discuss its proposals for some paid off-street beach parking.
"I have previously said that while the Government would not accept blanket beach-side paid parking, I would consider any proposal put to me by a local government," Mr Omodei said.
"Cottesloe has been thorough in its planning for its current proposal and it appears to have given proper consideration to the needs of beach goers, residents, commercial interests, and the council's own revenue for the maintenance and development of the beach and associated facilities.
"I understand that submissions from residents in relation to the council's review of its local laws about parking close at the end of this month, so the council would probably be able to assess those submissions and finalise its position by the end of February.
"I would be happy to meet with council representatives at that stage so that all matters could be finalised in time to meet their target of a July 1 start for the trial if it is to go ahead."
