Determination in the quest for excellence at Kalgoorlie Boulder Health Service has been rewarded with four year's quality accreditation, Health Minister John Day announced today.
Mr Day said it was the first time the entire health service had been awarded accreditation.
"Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital was first accredited in February 1993, and now the areas of mental health, public and community health have also achieved accreditation," he said.
"The people of Kalgoorlie can be proud of the high quality of services provided by its health service, knowing it performed so well under the open scrutiny of the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.
"The achievement of this award is clear recognition that there is a culture of continuous improvement in service delivery throughout the health service."
Mr Day said that throughout the intense survey, reviewers had looked at documentation, spoken with staff, attended regular health service meetings and listened to health service teams present recent improvements in a variety of areas.
"The accreditation process is a continuous journey and the health service must continue to ensure that the care provided meets the needs, wants and expectations of patients and their families," he said.
"The next step for the health service will be a self-evaluation of the care and services provided to ensure that improvements are constantly monitored.
"Areas needing further improvement will be identified early and the appropriate action will be taken.
"Staff at Kalgoorlie Boulder Health Service worked tirelessly to achieve this prestigious award and we join the community in congratulating them on their efforts."
