Aboriginal Affairs Minister Dr Kim Hames will visit remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the Northern Territory and Queensland next week.

During his visit the Minister will discuss a broad range of Aboriginal issues such as housing, flood management, economic developments, employment programs, canteens and the provision of essential services.

Dr Hames will tour a number of communities with Northern Territory Aboriginal Affairs Minister Tim Baldwin before leaving for Queensland.

During his visit he will visit Bulla where the Australian army carried out structural work as part of a new program to upgrade remote Aboriginal communities.

The work at Bulla followed on the heels of a successful bid last year by the Minister to have the Army repair the flooded WA community of Oombulgurri, near Wyndham.

"I am hoping to meet with Marngarr Community Council president Galarrwuy Yunupingu during this visit," Dr Hames said.

"I would consider that a highlight of my visit to the region.

"It will also be interesting and valuable to look at the Melville Island Community's management of issues relating to alcohol, the Body Shop tea tree plantation at Silver Springs and the new water facility in the Cape York northern peninsula area."
