Health Minister John Day today congratulated the Moora and Dalwallinu hospitals on their recent accreditation with the Australian Council of Health Care Standards (ACHS).

Dalwallinu, which was the second rural Western Australian hospital to be accredited in 1984, has received its fourth three-year accreditation.

The Moora District Hospital has also received full accreditation this year.

"Staff work exceptionally hard to achieve the high standards required by the ACHS for this kind of accreditation and their efforts have paid off, well done," Mr Day said.

"Both facilities continue to provide excellent health care to their respective communities.

"Those communities should be proud and reassured that their hospital staff and facilities are among the best in Australia, as their recent accreditation proves."

The Minister today visited the Dalwallinu Hospital, which is celebrating its 25th year, and attended the inaugural meeting of the Western Health Service Board.

The new board covers the four district hospitals at Moora, Dalwallinu, Goomalling and Wongan Hills.

"I am sure this amalgamation will enable better co-ordination and management across the district hospitals and provide an avenue for further flexibility to better serve the community," Mr Day said.

The Minister said he was aware of the difficulties of retaining a permanent doctor at Dalwallinu and thanked staff for the dedicated way in which they continued to deliver first-class health care to the local community.
