Moora is to receive a further $131,500 in grants to assist with the reconstruction of local community facilities damaged by extensive flooding of the town earlier this year.
The funding, in the form of Community Reconstruction Grants, has been announced today by the Federal Minister for Regional Services, Senator Ian Macdonald, and Western Australian Premier Richard Court.
The funding is part of the $10 million Cyclones Elaine and Vance Trust Fund that was established by Mr Court and Prime Minister John Howard in March this year.
The grants are to assist with the repair of facilities for aged care, community recreation and St John Ambulance. (Full list attached).
Senator Macdonald, who visited WA recently, said that the work on these facilities would play an important role in rebuilding the fabric of the Moora community.
"Moora suffered great loss as a result of recent flooding, but the feeling in the town is optimistic and with the reconstruction of these facilities the community spirit will continue to grow," Senator Macdonald said.
Mr Court said funds from the Trust had been allocated to many of the sporting groups in Moora.
"The grants are important because not only do they help restore local infrastructure, but they also assist in meeting the need to rebuild the community through sporting, leisure and community group activity," the Premier said.
"The people of Moora are to be congratulated on the work and energy they have put into getting their town back on its feet after it was inundated by floodwaters on two occasions earlier this year.
"Moora has repeatedly demonstrated that it is a town with an indomitable spirit."

The Reconstruction Grants are on top of significant assistance that has already been provided to Moora, including $2 million in business assistance grants (which had been deemed as tax exempt) and almost $300,000 in clean-up costs.
