Moora will have a purpose-built TAFE facility to cater for its current and future education and training needs, Employment and Training Minister Graham Kierath said today.
Mr Kierath unveiled plans for the Moora TAFE Centre which will be built adjacent to the Central Midlands High School.
Construction is planned to start in December and should be completed by September 2000.
C.Y. O'Connor College of TAFE established facilities in Moora in 1991 and leases three premises within the town for vocational education and training purposes.
"However, the premises no longer meet the current training needs of the growing town as it prepares for the employment and vocational education and training opportunities of the new millennium," Mr Kierath said.
He said the new centre would address the current and future education training needs of the Moora community and encourage the participation of Aboriginal students.
"Students will have the opportunity to study a range of subjects and vocational education courses which may increase their chances of gaining employment, re-entering the workforce, or furthering their career paths by learning new skills," he said.
"Others may take up one of the many Adult Community Education (ACE) courses on offer, including art, craft and other leisure activities."
Mr Kierath said additional engineering and siteworks to guard against flooding would be undertaken.
"There will be a purpose-built trades workshop and an arts and design workshop, and classrooms will meet the minimum standard class size of 14 people, in keeping with cost-effective training," he said.
Mr Kierath thanked community groups and representatives for their involvement in the planning and consultation process.
