Environment Minister Kevin Minson has moved quickly to quash speculation by the Conservation Council of Western Australia about budget cuts to the Environmental Protection Authority.

He said today that he and his staff had been discussing the State's budget with all agencies under his control, including the EPA.

Those discussions were continuing and he would be meeting with the Premier while the usual Treasury processes took place.

"I can tell you any talk about $3 million cuts to the EPA are mischievous and absolute nonsense," Mr Minson said.

"While the budget discussions will continue, I have advised the EPA that the pollution control and evaluation divisions' budgets will not be cut.

"I regard those divisions as essential to the integrity and proper working of the EPA.

"In addition, in the final budget process a large number of factors will be taken into consideration by the Government, including the findings of the Independent Commission on Public Sector Finances and possible revenue raising."
