Mr Nicholas Hasluck QC appointed Supreme Court Judge

Attorney General Peter Foss today announced the appointment of Nicholas Paul Hasluck QC as a Supreme Court Judge. Mr Hasluck will step into the place left by the Hon Justice White who will officially retire this morning at a special sitting of the Supreme Court.
"We are very pleased to have a man of such obvious and diverse talents join the Supreme Court bench, "Mr Foss said.
Mr Hasluck, who was admitted to practice in 1968, was a partner of Keall Brinsden before going to the Bar in 1984, and subsequently appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1988.
Since then he has undertaken significant counsel work in a variety of jurisdictions including the Supreme Court, the Federal Court, the District Court and the Town Planning and Valuation Appeals Tribunals.
Mr Hasluck was also appointed President of the Equal Opportunity Tribunal (WA) in 1989.
Apart from his career in law, Mr Hasluck has published a number of books including "The Belarmine Jug" which won the Age Book of the Year Award 1984.
He has also held a variety of professional appointments to literary, arts and law bodies and is the current Chair of the Literature Fund of the Australia Council.
Mr Hasluck has been a Member of the Order of Australia since 1986.
