Energy Minister Colin Barnett has welcomed a new member to the board of the State's gas utility AlintaGas.

Mr Barnett said today that Western Australian businesswoman Fiona Harris had been appointed as a director of the seven-member AlintaGas board to replace Ms Jenny Fear. Current director, Dwane Buckland, had also been reappointed to the board.

Ms Harris is currently an Executive Director of WA-based Barrington Consulting Group and has extensive experience in financial and business management, particularly in the banking, investment, services and mining industries.

Mr Barnett said he welcomed Ms Harris' expertise to the AlintaGas board.

"Ms Harris has a significant amount of professional experience, both in Australia and overseas, in the financial and accounting industry, working closely with large companies across a number of sectors," Mr Barnett said.

"She now provides consultancy services to a number of State-based groups and also holds positions on the boards of the Hospital Benefit Fund of WA and the Government Employees Superannuation Board."

The appointment of Ms Harris and re-appointment of Mr Buckland are effective immediately.
