Deputy Premier and Regional Development Minister Hendy Cowan today officially launched the multi-million dollar Batavia Coast Marina project in Geraldton, saying the development was set to revitalise the city's waterfront.
"This project is great news for Geraldton," Mr Cowan said.
"It is a milestone in the city's development - a development that will be used and enjoyed by people for generations to come."
Stage one of the marina project incorporates 31 lots which are expected to be fully developed ready for sale in December, with a possible pre-release in September.
They include two large waterfront sites ideal for tourist-oriented developments such as restaurants and accommodation.
Other, smaller blocks are suitable for townhouse or apartment development.
"Revitalising the waterfront and encouraging a busy working marina, the project will create a natural extension to the city's CBD," Mr Cowan said.
"When completed, it will also deliver on a Coalition election commitment to create a world-class marina complex for the city."

Mr Cowan said the Batavia Coast Marina was an important economic project that had the ability to contribute significantly to the growth of the Mid-West region.
The Mid-West Development Commission has already awarded contracts to a number of local businesses.
The $5.25 million contract to build the new Mid-West Museum has been won by the Geraldton Building Company and local firm North Coast Holdings is providing the roads and services into the marina. The Geraldton Brick Company will be making the hundreds of thousands of pavers needed for the first stage of the project.
Andrew Short from First National has been appointed selling agent and local nurseries are being invited to tender for the supply and planting of the trees and shrubs which are included in the extensive landscaping program.
"All this positive energy and activity will ensure that Geraldton can look forward to a bright and exciting future as we work together to create the Batavia Coast Marina," Mr Cowan said.
He said the project was a complex undertaking that would enhance Geraldton's existing civic, commercial and recreational amenities and promote opportunities for tourism.
"There is the potential for cafes, restaurants, shops, office and tourist accommodation to sit side-by-side in this dynamic new waterfront precinct," he said.
"A whole new range of lifestyle choices will be available in Geraldton.
"By taking the best mixed-use ideas from places such as Fremantle and Bunbury, and applying character unique to Geraldton, the city will be enjoying a cosmopolitan style of its own.
"The project will revitalise the city's waterfront by creating access to Champion Bay and connecting Geraldton more directly to its northern beaches.
"The marina will provide opportunities for tourism, marine chandlery and retail, while allowing visitors to enjoy alfresco dining or a walk along the boardwalk."
Mr Cowan said there was a strong emphasis on quality public open space and significant funding from the State Government would be invested to not only create a "people place" but to develop a waterfront lifestyle for the people of the region and visitors.
He said Geraldton could be proud of the enthusiasm and support it had shown for the Batavia Coast Marina project.
"Today's launch confirms that the vision for a revitalised Geraldton waterfront is fast becoming a reality," Mr Cowan said.
