Transperth's $2.3 million Murdoch Park 'n' Ride bus station will begin operating on Monday, December 5.

Transport Minister Eric Charlton said the station, located on the Kwinana Freeway near South Street, would provide a direct link for public transport users to the city and greatly improve service to the Murdoch University.

Funding was provided through the Commonwealth's Australian Land Transport Development Fund, with assistance from the State Government.

Stage One provides 583 normal parking bays, five bays for people with disabilities, 42 motorcycle bays and a 'kiss 'n' ride' stopping point to accommodate up to seven cars simultaneously.

An additional 12 buses per hour would be added to the southern suburbs services during peak times, with a bus servicing the station every 10 minutes during peak hour and every 30 minutes during off-peak time.

"The Murdoch Park 'n' Ride has been designed in harmony with the surrounding landscape and blends in well," Mr Charlton said.

"With the new frequency of service, the facility should help get cars off the Kwinana Freeway and out of the city.

"This kind of facility makes public transport more attractive and efficient because people have easy access from their cars to a bus that will delivery them quickly to the city."

The Murdoch station will be officially opened on December 14.
