Nearly 350 unclaimed bicycles to be auctioned
28/11/94
Nearly 350 unclaimed bicycles will go under the auctioneer's hammer in Perth tomorrow morning (Tuesday, November 29).
Services Minister Graham Kierath said the auction was being held on behalf of the Police Department and prices at previous auctions had ranged from $1 to $450.
All bikes would be sold.
"The auctions have been very successful, with hundreds of people attending the last one in September," Mr Kierath said.
"As well as relieving the Police Department of the need to dispose of the bikes, the auctions have been extremely popular with bargain hunters.
"Under the Police Act, bicycles handed in to the Police Department are retained for six months before disposal to give owners an opportunity to identify and claim their property.
"The choice of bikes and the prices are wide enough to meet everyone's requirements - ranging from children's bicycles to mountain, racing, ladies' and BMX bikes."
Mr Kierath said the auction would be held at the State Supply Disposals Centre in Pilbara Street, Welshpool, from 9 am tomorrow and the bicycles could be inspected from 1 pm to 4 pm today or one hour before the start of the auction.
