A new state-of-the-art Computed Tomography (CT) Scanner will be installed at Kalgoorlie Hospital this financial year, Health Minister John Day announced today.
Mr Day said the new CT scanner, funded by the Health Department, would allow for a dramatic improvement in scanning time and higher diagnostic quality, enabling staff to increase the range of services available.
"Many people will no longer have to travel to Perth to receive advanced medical imaging - particularly children, people with cancer and people with vascular or orthopaedic conditions," the Minister said.
"Together with the State-wide telephone advice helpline, HealthDirect, the new Healthy Directions in WA - A Guide to Healthy Travelling booklet, the Healthinfo line and the Health Services Guide, the new CT scanner will make health care more accessible for people living in the Goldfields area."
Mr Day said provision of the CT scanner was part of the Government's commitment to providing care for all Western Australians closer to home.
