COMMUNITY CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE
Mr Omodei said today that the Shires of Manjimup, Bridgetown-Greenbushes, Augusta-Margaret River and Nannup are represented on the committee along with the Manjimup Chamber of Commerce, the South West Development Commission, the Warren-Blackwood Business Assistance Centre and community representatives.
The Committee held a preliminary meeting in Bridgetown today and I will be driving the committee to help the Government and the community to co-ordinate efforts to accelerate the restructure of the timber industry and new projects in the South West.
Matters needing input from a number of Ministers would be sent direct to the Premier to ensure a prompt and co-ordinated response.
The committee would also act as a communication channel to people in the region, consulting and advising the community as projects developed.
"The combination of circumstances in the mining, timber and horticultural industries that have affected the lower South West in recent weeks require a very positive response from Government and the community in order to create new opportunities, "
Mr Omodei said.
