A new Transperth Citylink bus service will run from Mandurah to Perth starting on Monday, December 11.

Transport Minister Eric Charlton said today the service would use coaches rather than normal buses.

The coaches would service several stops in Mandurah before making an express run to Perth.

There would be three trips in the morning and three returning in the afternoon.

Mr Charlton said the Department of Transport would carry out a survey of people in the area to find out what times they would prefer the coaches to operate.

The proposed route from Mandurah to Perth would be from a stop in Pinjarra Road west of Fremantle Road (Jack Ireland Park, opposite the Mandurah Forum Shopping Centre) via Pinjarra Road, right Sutton Street, left Tuckey Street, right Mandurah Terrace, Fremantle Road, Mandurah Road, Ennis Avenue, right Patterson Road, right Thomas Road, left Kwinana Freeway, Narrows Bridge and 'buses only' access road to City Busport.

From Perth to Mandurah the route would be from the City Busport via 'buses only' access road to Narrows Bridge, Kwinana Freeway, right Thomas Road, left Patterson Road, left Ennis Avenue, Mandurah Road, Fremantle Road, right Mandurah Terrace, left Gibson Street, right Sutton Street, left Pinjarra Road, to a stop west of Fremantle Road (near Mandurah Forum Shopping Centre).

The new service has been welcomed by the Member for Mandurah, Roger Nicholls, and the Member for Murray, Arthur Marshall, both of whom have been working for a Mandurah-Perth express bus service for some time.

Mr Charlton said the new Citylink service would make a welcome addition to the Mandurah public transport service.

"It will also dramatically improve the chances of employment for Mandurah school-leavers as well as close the link between Mandurah and the Perth metropolitan area," he said.

The Transperth fares schedule will apply on this service.

The current standard eight-zone cash fare is $6 which will be charged from Mandurah and from the stop at Meadow Springs Drive on Fremantle Road.  The eight-zone MultiRider fare for 10 rides is $51.40.  The charge from all the other stops will be the seven-zone fare, $5.30 (MultiRider users pay $45.40 for 10 rides).  The eight-zone concession fare is $2.
