Perth businessman Simon Lee has been appointed chairman of Trustees to the Board of the Perth Theatre Trust for a period of three years.

Mr Lee replaces current chairman, Jack Marks, whose term has expired.

Arts Minister Peter Foss said Mr Lee would bring a wealth of experience to the position.

"Mr Lee has had extensive management experience, with a diversity of business enterprises in a career that has based him in Australia, Asia, Great Britain and Canada," Mr Foss said.

"As well as being Executive Chairman of Equity in Industry Limited, and holding several directorships including the R&I Bank, Mr Lee has also devoted his time to many honorary positions, and has served as a member of the Kings Park Board and the Technology and Industry Advisory Council of Western Australia.

"Mr Lee is also current President of the WA Chinese Chamber of Commerce, a member of the WA Asia Business Council and a Board member of the Australian Trade Commission.

"Mr Lee's extensive business contacts with our near-neighbours in Asia should prove invaluable," Mr Foss said.

"It could mean the opening up of a very substantial market for Western Australian arts, in both attracting visitors from Asia and the possibility of local performers travelling overseas."

The Perth Theatre Trust was established under the Perth Theatre Trust Act 1979, to manage and operate performing arts venues under its control.

These include the Perth Concert Hall, His Majesty's Theatre, the Subiaco Theatre Centre, the Playhouse and the Quarry Amphitheatre.

It also maintains the BOCS ticketing service.
