New facilities for Fisheries WA in Esperance show Gov't support for rural areas
27/5/99
New facilities and refurbished offices for Fisheries WA in Esperance demonstrated the Coalition Government's commitment to support rural communities and provide resources closer to customers, Fisheries Minister Monty House said today.
Mr House said the upgrade of facilities, at a cost of $25,000, would ensure the fishing industry in the region would be well serviced into the new millennium.
In the recent State Budget, $1.7 million has been allocated to Fisheries WA for a capital works program in the next financial year.
"The work is being commissioned today and will include new furnishings, telephone system and an improved customer service area," the Minister said.
The newly refitted office will accommodate three staff to service the commercial fisheries such as abalone, pilchards, Southern rock lobster and shark.
Fisheries WA staff also provide information and assistance to recreational fishers visiting the popular South Coast holiday and camping sites.
"The facilities will provide a better working environment for employees and will assist staff to maintain the existing high level of service to customers," Mr House said.
The work is expected to be completed by July 31.
