Racing and Gaming Minister Max Evans has announced the appointment of two new members to the Committee of the Western Australian Greyhound Racing Association.

They are business proprietor Ray Bennett, 49, of City Beach and veterinarian Dr Peter Thomas, 42 of Busselton, both of whom have been appointed for a three-year term.

They replace chairman Pat Ryan and Dr Thomas Edwards, who have stood down from their positions.

Mr Bennett, who has been appointed chairman, is a former director of Challenge Bank who has held a number of senior positions in the finance industry during a career which included 13 years with the Hotham Building Society and 11 years with the Commonwealth Bank.

Dr Thomas, who breeds and trains greyhounds in Busselton, is the Western Australian Greyhound Racing Association's nominee on the Greyhound Industry Consultative Committee, and was the track veterinarian at Sandown, Victoria, before moving to Western Australia.

Committee members Mr Darryl Gore, the deputy chairman, and Mr David Simonette, have been reappointed for two years, while Mr Douglas West has been reappointed for one year.

Welcoming the appointments, Mr Evans said the new members brought a wide range of skills and talents to the committee, and said he was confident they would make a strong contribution to the committee's deliberations.
