New primary school planned for Little Grove, Albany
7/11/95
Education Minister Norman Moore said today that Little Grove, Albany would have a new primary school for the start of the 1997 school year.
Mr Moore said that as part of the Education Department's capital works program for the current financial year, new schools would be built at Little Grove and at Currambine, in Wanneroo.
The total cost of both schools would be $7 million, with Little Grove costing $3.3 million.
The Minister said expressions of interest from architects to design both new schools had been called.
Planning would begin before the end of this year and construction would take place during 1996.
Little Grove Primary School would relieve enrolment pressure on Yakamia Primary School, one of the largest primary schools in the State.
The school would have nine classrooms and two pre-primary classrooms, an art/craft room, a music room, an administration block and a canteen.
As appropriate for schools near the start of the 21st century, the new school would have an automated library/resource centre.
"Our children deserve the best available resource facilities," Mr Moore said.
"By teaching them to make the best use of library facilities we are providing them with a valuable asset for life-long learning.
"The Government is committed to providing students with first-class facilities and the new Little Grove Primary School will be an example of the very best our system has to offer," Mr Moore said
He said as with all new primary schools constructed in the 1990s, the school would also have a covered assembly area.
The Education Department was investigating the feasibility of working with the Albany Council in providing joint school and community sports and recreation facilities.
