Transport Minister Eric Charlton has announced a new fly/drive tourist package that will enable holiday-makers in the southern regions of the State to visit the North-West at affordable rates.

The scheme involves Stateships carrying vehicles from Perth to Broome and Wyndham at under $400.

"Car owners who may be put off by the long and expensive drive just to get to the Kimberley from Perth can now have their vehicles transported safely while they catch a plane," Mr Charlton said.

"What we want to see is a system whereby people can ship their car and fly in one direction, enjoy the beauty of the North-West in the comfort of their vehicle, then drive home."

Specially designed sea containers - or 'sea-cars' - are being used to ship vehicles from Perth to the North-West.
