New tenancy laws for retail shop leases will come into effect from July 1.
Fair Trading Minister Doug Shave said key reforms included a new simple language 'Tenant Guide' and a revised disclosure statement.
"Prospective tenants should read these documents carefully and take expert advice before signing any agreement," Mr Shave said.
"The reforms also apply new fairness provisions in the rent review process, in tenant contributions to landlord expenses and to audit standards."
Mr Shave said the State Government had delivered on its commitment to complete a statutory review of the Commercial Tenancy (Retail Shops) Agreements Act 1985.
"The amendments followed extensive consultation with industry and are a balanced outcome for small business retailers and property owners," he said.
An extensive industry education program, which included seminars and new publications for prospective tenants, had been implemented prior to the legislation taking effect.
Copies of the 'Tenant Guide', disclosure statement and a summary of the new laws and related information are available from Ministry of Fair Trading offices and its website http://www.fairtrading.wa.gov.au
