Official opening of extensions at East Waikiki Primary School
6/11/96
Extensions and upgrades at East Waikiki Primary School have benefited students and staff at one of Western Australia's largest primary schools.
Officially opened today by Education Minister Colin Barnett during a visit to the school, the extensions include an upgrade to the administration area, sporting facilities and cooling of all demountables. The improvements cost more than $480,000.
East Waikiki Primary School has more than 950 students between pre-primary and year seven. The school opened in 1987 and has experienced rapid growth in student numbers. The school now has more than 61 staff, including 46 teachers.
Mr Barnett said that after consultation with staff and the school community, the extensions were made in preference to a new teaching block.
"The school has worked closely with the local community, and in particular the City of Rockingham, to improve facilities for students, such as their safe access to the Hourglass Reserve from the school," he said.
"I am pleased to officially open these new facilities to help alleviate the pressure on other facilities at the school following the increase in student numbers."
