Lands Minister Doug Shave today officially opened the two new display homes, built by JCorp and Dale Alcock, in Bunbury's Marlston Hill Redevelopment Project.

Mr Shave paid tribute to the builders, who had clearly proven their faith in the future of the residential market in Bunbury by building the homes.

"The builders have recognised the quality and breadth of opportunity the Bunbury region offers," he said.

"Bunbury's strength is made up of people who are willing to make a commitment to its future."

Mr Shave said the Marlston Hill Redevelopment Project was a fine example of the State Government meeting the needs of regional communities.

"In Marlston Hill the State Government has been able to offer Bunbury opportunities for economic and social growth through a greater diversity of business, commercial and lifestyle choices," he said.

"LandCorp, as the developers of Marlston Hill, are to be congratulated for their professionalism and more importantly for their ability to work with the people of Bunbury to bring their plans to fruition."

Mr Shave said people who did not live in the development could also enjoy the many benefits the project had brought to the town.

"Guppy Park has been refurbished as a wonderful inner-city retreat, the northern end of Victoria Street has been upgraded and Marlston Drive now offers a superb scenic drive," he said.

"The link between the city and its waterfront is growing stronger all the time."

LandCorp lodged the Marlston Waterfront Concept Plan with the Bunbury Council last month. The plan aims to achieve a seamless flow between the city and the water. It identifies significant areas of public space which residents and tourists alike can enjoy, including an upgrade of the Children's Beach.

The opening of the display homes precedes the eagerly awaited land auction of stage three of the redevelopment project.

Twenty one lots go under the hammer at 11am on February 21. The lots are the first residential land to go on sale north of the landmark Rotary Lookout.

The lots have a harbourside location in a protected area of the subdivision and are close to the city and the water. They are north facing and come in a mix of sizes and zonings.

The lots are subject to design guidelines which cover such areas as building setbacks, roof pitch and fencing materials.
