Official opening of redeveloped Hollywood Private Hospital
20/8/97
Premier Richard Court and the Federal Minister for Veterans' Affairs Bruce Scott today officially opened the newly redeveloped Hollywood Private Hospital marking a new era in the rich history of the well known Western Australian health care institution.
Mr Court said there had been many changes to the facility since it was first built during the Second World War and opened in 1942.
"Originally it was called the Australian General Hospital and it was also known as the 110 Military Hospital," he said.
"After the war, in 1947, the Repatriation Commission took control of the hospital and it underwent a further name change to the Repatriation General Hospital Hollywood but to most Western Australians it became known as the Repat.
"For more than 50 years the hospital has cared for eligible veterans and war widows and I am pleased that this important service will continue."
Ramsay Health Care Australia undertook a $20 million redevelopment program shortly after purchasing the hospital three years ago.
Today the facility boasts 122 new beds and remains committed to the delivery of quality health care to Western Australians.
Mr Court said the redeveloped hospital would complement services offered by other private health providers, as well as the public hospitals in this State.
"The Government is firmly committed to working hand-in-hand with the private sector health care providers," he said.
"As demands on our health system continue to grow at an unprecedented rate the Government will encourage partnerships like that forged with Ramsay Health Care Australia."
