Onslow and Exmouth sporting facilities receive $153,963 after recent damages
3/9/99
Sporting facilities hardest hit by Cyclone Vance in the towns of Onslow and Exmouth and flood affected Moora are set to benefit from the support of Sport and Recreation Minister, Norman Moore.
Mr Moore said that the Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) would provide $153,963 immediately towards repair costs and the upgrading of 23 sporting facilities.
Each year, the Coalition Government commits $8 million to the CSRFF program to assist sport and recreation groups to construct new or upgrade existing facilities.
Applications for the next round of funding are currently open with the relevant Government authorities and are due to close at the end of September.
"Sporting facilities provide the community with a resource which enables them to develop vital social networks and development skills and it is therefore essential that we support the efforts of these valuable sporting organisations,"
Mr Moore said.
"The attraction and popularity of competitive sports revolve around the fact that they give goals to strive for and promote discipline.
"It is essential that rural towns have the facilities to encourage greater community involvement and responsibility."
Mr Moore commended the sporting organisations and their volunteers who had made a huge effort to rectify some of the flood and cyclone damage for the benefit of their communities.
