Employment and Training Minister Norman Moore today officially opened the $800,000 Busselton Campus of the South-West Regional College of TAFE.

The Minister said the new Busselton Campus was the first step in the South-West Regional College's plan to establish a much larger campus in the Vasse region.

"The longer term plan is to establish a significant facility which will complement the Bunbury Campus by providing a focus for hospitality and tourism; horticulture and viticulture; art and design, and general studies," Mr Moore said.

Currently, Busselton offers courses in business studies, human services, children's services, art and design, general education, food preparation and information technology as well as a range of access and labour market programs.

Mr Moore said the new TAFE campus included a cluster of general teaching, computing and practical laboratory space joined by verandahs and walkways.

"This facility has been designed so it can be easily re-located as the demand for vocational education and training facilities in Busselton grows," Mr Moore said.

"Local industry will continue to work with the vocational education and training sector to ensure students receive the most relevant training possible to the region so growth can be catered for."

Ideally located adjacent to the local high school, the new facility makes Busselton the third largest of six campuses within the South-West Regional College of TAFE.

The five other campuses are at Bunbury, Collie, Harvey, Manjimup and Margaret River and there are also nine part-time centres in towns including Nannup, Bridgetown and Augusta.
