8/2/99
Arts Minister Peter Foss has opened 'From Dust' - an exhibition by Pippin Drysdale, one of Australia's most exciting ceramic artists.
Created with the support of ArtsWA's Creative Development Fellowship, the exhibition features a number of large-scale porcelain vessels inspired by the grandeur of Australia's ancient landscape.
"I would like to congratulate Ms Drysdale on this excellent body of work, which will no doubt add to her significant and on-going contribution to the advancement of contemporary visual arts in Australia," Mr Foss said.
"Her prolific creativity has been recognised not only at home, but also overseas."
Ms Drysdale's career has included international touring master-classes, residencies and continuous and extensive exhibitions, including 21 solo exhibitions as well as group exhibitions in Japan, USA, Russia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, England, New Zealand and Italy.
Her work is also held in permanent collections throughout Australia as well as Russia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and the USA and graces major private and corporate collections nationally and internationally.
"Ms Drysdale has also contributed to the development of contemporary ceramic practice through the creation of her work and through sharing her vast knowledge, most recently as Senior Research Fellow at the School of Art at Curtin University," Mr Foss said.
"I congratulate her on this exhibition which indeed captures the essence of the Australian landscape."
'From Dust' is being staged as part of the Festival of Perth and is on at Perth Galleries in Subiaco. The exhibition closes on March 1.
