Opening of exhibition of works by artist Kiya Murman in Fremantle
15/7/98
Arts Minister Peter Foss tonight opened an exhibition of works by Perth artist Kiya Murman at New Collectables Gallery in East Fremantle.
New Zealand born Kiya came to Perth seven years ago. She completed an arts degree at Curtin University in 1992.
In that same year the Minister opened a student exhibition which included Kiya's artwork.
"It is therefore a great pleasure to accept the invitation to open her first solo exhibition," Mr Foss said.
"In my office, I enjoy one of her artworks which is a painting of a woman's head titled Hibiscus Woman.
"This exhibition is also about heads and based on the theme of 'Identity'."
Kiya Murman is from Inglewood in Perth and the exhibition contains carvings, sculpture, paintings and drawings.
The Minister also praised New Collectables Gallery director Jan Hart for her continued support of emerging and established artists.
The exhibition finishes on August 2.
