Opening of major new additions to Yanchep District High School
22/11/96
Major new additions to Yanchep District High School have been opened today by Education Minister Colin Barnett.
The $914,000 additions include a new teaching block, revamped library and improvements to the reception, interview and administration areas.
Mr Barnett said Yanchep District High School opened 21 years ago as a single cluster primary school and had provided excellent service to thousands of students since then.
"The school enrolled its first year eight student in 1980 and become a district high school in 1981 as enrolments grew," he said.
"By 1995, the school had 10 temporary classrooms and the decision was made to proceed with a significant upgrade by adding the new, permanent facilities that students and staff have been enjoying for most of this year."
Mr Barnett said that this financial year, for the first time, more than $100 million dollars would be spent on new schools or major improvements in about 40 centres to provide a better teaching and learning environment for thousands of young Western Australians.
