Opening of new Elders Limited facilities at Kojonup
22/6/99
Primary producers in the Kojonup region would benefit from the new Elders Limited facilities, Primary Industry Minister Monty House said today at the opening.
Mr House said Elders Limited had progressed through major corporate change over the years to maintain its position as the leading farmer services business in Australia - operating from more than 150 outlets around Australia.
"Elders Limited and the Kojonup farming community are prime examples of what makes primary production in Western Australia one of the main stays of the economy," he said.
"Kojonup made a name for itself as the first shire with one million sheep and the farmers of the area have applied the same pioneering spirit to adapt to a changing global market environment.
"I applaud the foresight shown by Kojonup primary producers as they have embraced diversification, new technology, new crops and farming systems.
"Looking to a positive future for the farming community requires the joint commitment and ingenuity of our men and women on the land, the Government and companies like Elders that provide essential products and services."
The new Elders premises in Kojonup are part of an on-going program by Elders Limited to upgrade its rural facilities and services throughout WA.
"It is good to see corporate commitment in regional areas to complement the Government's investment in rural Western Australians and WA," Mr House said.
"Since coming into Government, I have initiated a regionalization program within Agriculture WA to bring more staff and services directly to where our client base is."
In addition to an increase in services, a capital works program will see the completion of new offices and facilities in Northam, Manjimup and Geraldton.
Mr House commended Elders Limited for the delivery of vital services to the rural community.
