Perth architects appointed to Heritage Council of WA
25/7/95
Heritage Minister Richard Lewis today announced the appointment of two new members to the Heritage Council of Western Australia.
Mr Lewis said Perth architects Tony Ednie-Brown and Janine Marsh had accepted positions on the council, which was established under the Heritage of Western Australia Act 1990.
"Mr Ednie-Brown has more than 30 years' experience in architecture, planning and landscaping and has served as a member of various boards including six years on the Rottnest Island Board," he said.
"Recently Mr Ednie-Brown served as a commissioner of the City of Perth."
The Minister said the council would also benefit from the expert knowledge of Janine Marsh who was well-known for her commercial architecture and interior design services throughout Australia and in parts of Asia.
"The two new members will bring considerable expertise to the nine-member council and help promote the conservation of the State's heritage, which is the Heritage Council's main objective."
Each appointment is for two years and follows the resignation of Avril O'Brien and Ross Chisholm.
Mr Lewis said the work of both Dr O'Brien and Mr Chisholm had helped raise the community's awareness of the need to preserve the State's heritage.
"The former members played an important role in the compilation of the State Register of Heritage Places, which recently recorded its 300th listing," he said.
"This significant achievement ensures that future generations will have a visual reminder of WA's history."
The Minister said two existing members had been re-appointed to their positions on the council.
Historian Cathie Clement and engineer Bruce James, who has a special interest in industrial heritage, have each had their term of appointment extended by one year.
