A Main Roads contract valued at nearly $376,000 has been awarded to Pioneer Road Services for sealing and resealing roads in the Mid-West region.

Transport Minister Eric Charlton said the contract involved improving the road surface on sections of the Brand Highway, Great Northern Highway, Geraldton-Mt Magnet Road and Wubin-Mullewa Road.

"When roads are built or reconstructed, the first stage is usually finished with a primerseal.  Some 12 months later, the final seal is applied to the road, which should give it a life of between 30 and 40 years.  During this period, a reseal can be applied as a cost effective means of extending the life of the road before it needs reconstructing," Mr Charlton said.

The allocation of the contract work:

+          Brand Highway $126,600;

+          Great Northern Highway $131,000;

+          Geraldton-Mt Magnet Road $86,294; and-

+          Wubin-Mullewa Road $32,000.

Work would be carried out over a six-month period commencing in November, 1995.
