Pioneer Road Services wins contract for sealing work on north Wheatbelt roads
27/11/95
A $1.8 million Main Roads contract for sealing and resealing work in the northern wheatbelt area has been awarded to Pioneer Road Services.
Transport Minister Eric Charlton said works under the contract included supply and delivery of crushed aggregate and bitumen for approximately 150 kilometres of roads.
"Sections of the Great Eastern Highway, Great Northern Highway and the Goomalling-Merredin Road will be treated by Pioneer," Mr Charlton said.
He said that when roads were constructed, the first stage was usually finished with a primerseal and the final seal was applied some 12 months later, giving the road a life of between 30 and 40 years.
"The works have been made possible through the Government's Additional Funding Program, which will allocate $100 million per year over the next 10 years for WA roads," the Minister said.
The Pioneer Road Services contract will start this month and is expected to continue until April next year.
