Plans for Mungari industrial park by end of the year
11/5/93
Land could be available for industry at Mungari Heavy Industry Park, 26 kilometres south-west of Kalgoorlie by the end of this year.
Lands Minister George Cash, who is also Mines Minister, said it was appropriate that a new era in the Eastern Goldfield's history should start during Kalgoorlie's centennial year.
Mr Cash said after 100 years of mining, the region was to have a heavy industrial site geared for the processing of its raw materials.
"Mungari Industrial Park is the first major inland industrial site developed in Western Australia," he said.
"Its location is a natural centre for the region with road and rail junctions extending north to Leonora, south to Kambalda, east to the Eastern States and west to Perth."
Located in the Coolgardie Shire, the park will occupy 735 ha and is close to the water pipeline, transcontinental railway line and Kalgoorlie Airport.
Mr Cash said the engineering study for the provision of services at Mungari was underway and other procedures associated with the park's establishment were progressing well.
He said Environment Minister Kevin Minson had released his report on the project and it was favourable.
"The development of Mungari is a long-term project which will be carried out in a number of stages to coincide with industry demand," the Minister said.
"To provide greater flexibility for industries interested in locating to Mungari, the land will not be sub-divided into conventional lots but will be available in sizes to suit the particular operation."
