10/7/00
Registrations for the fourth annual Progress Rural WA conference, which includes the presentation of the annual Awards for Excellence in Rural WA at a gala dinner, close soon, Primary Industry Minister Monty House said today.
The conference, which features the theme Creating an excellent life for people in rural WA, will be held from Friday, August 18 to Sunday, August 20 at Fairbridge Farm.
The conference is open to all people enthusiastic about developing a stronger, more sustainable rural community and includes inspiring speakers, workshop sessions and social functions.
Mr House said the past three Progress Rural WA conferences had been very successful.
"The conference provides a unique opportunity to draw together energetic people from all over the State who are committed to the future of their community," he said.
"The knowledge, experience and contacts made at the conference will help individuals contribute to achieving a positive pathway for individual rural communities."
The three-day conference will start each day with an address, to be used as a 'springboard' for workshop sessions to follow.
Head of the Outback 2002 program Helen Carrell is the speaker for day one. She is well qualified to discuss the frameworks required for building a positive rural future.
Four concurrent, interactive workshops will then follow her presentations to develop the concepts and ideals that can benefit rural communities.
The second day will commence with an address from environmental personality Harry Butler, who will discuss the conference theme from his unique perspective.
Californian consultant Michael Dimock will then discuss the opportunities to promote products and services by regional branding.
Mr Dimock is the founder and president of Sunflower Strategies, a consulting business that addresses regional and green marketing.
The highlight of the conference will be on Saturday evening at Tumblegum Farm, Mundijong, with the presentation of the winners of the Awards for Excellence in Rural WA 2000.
"There are three key awards, Innovation in Agriculture, Rural Leadership and Most Enterprising Rural Community, that will acknowledge the contribution being made in our rural committees," Mr House said.
"These awards also inspire others that individuals and groups can make a difference in their local community."
