Proposed reservoir for Wanneroo's Neerabup National Park approved
8/11/94
Environment Minister Kevin Minson has approved a proposed reservoir in an enclave within Wanneroo's Neerabup National Park to meet the future water supply requirements for Perth's North-West corridor.
Mr Minson set a number of environmental conditions on the proposal which was put forward by the WA Water Authority and involves building a storage facility and pipeline by 1995 and another by the year 2007.
The conditions included the Water Authority liaising with the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Conservation and Land Management before any clearing of vegetation took place.
"Clearing of vegetation has to be kept to a minimum and a rehabilitation program using local species must be prepared," Mr Minson said.
"I have also asked the Water Authority to fulfil a list of commitments, which reflect public opinion."
The commitments include developing a jarrah die-back prevention management plan, burying power lines and leaving most areas accessible to the public.
