Public bus service between coastal towns reinstated
9/6/95
The public bus service between the coastal towns of Greenhead, Leeman, Jurien, Cervantes and the Perth metropolitan area has been reinstated.
Transport Minister Eric Charlton said he was pleased to announce Jurien Bus Charter had been chosen to operate the service because their application best met the community's needs.
"Submissions from local and Perth-based operators were received and evaluated against criteria in the expression of interest document," Mr Charlton said.
"The Department of Transport presented the results to the Coastal Bus Service Steering Committee (CBSSC) comprising community representatives from all four towns.
"The CBSSC unanimously supported the application by Mr Frank Senior of Jurien Bus Charter."
Mr Charlton said Jurien Bus Charter was committed to providing a reliable, efficient and safe service, supported with backup staff and equipment.
Mr Senior had undertaken to promote the service to cater for locals and tourists. This was welcomed by the CBSSC which was keen to develop and realise the tourist potential in the area.
"The financial and operational performance of the service will be reviewed after 12 months," the Minister said.
Mr Charlton said the new service would be well publicised and the communities had a clear responsibility to patronise the service to ensure its long-term success.
