Premier Richard Court has highlighted the importance of research and development in the continued growth of business in regional Western Australia.
Officially opening the new premises of Ansac Pty Ltd in Bunbury this afternoon, Mr Court said the company was a good example of how a relatively small business could capture world markets by providing the most advanced techniques and technology in a particular field.
Ansac Pty Ltd employs 15 staff and is a major designer and manufacturer of new, more efficient processing systems for the minerals industry in Australia and overseas.
Mr Court said Ansac, a wholly owned Western Australian company, was a quiet achiever with an international reputation.
"The company has earned a reputation for developing and manufacturing equipment to meet the specific needs of clients around the world including Uruguay, Chile, Fiji, New Zealand, New Guinea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, China, India, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Italy, Spain, Ghana and Tanzania," the Premier said.
"Ansac's knowledge and on-going research and development program places the company at the forefront of technology in the minerals processing area.
"The company's commitment to constantly reviewing existing designs and developing new products to meet technological changes and customer demand is commendable and sets an example for other businesses trying to capture new markets.
"It's not generally understood that WA is the home of a number of leading edge companies that have developed as a result of the State's mining interests and Ansac is one of them."
Mr Court said the growth of the company in the past five years had contributed to the economic development of the South West region.
"With the construction of a new $1 million manufacturing centre, adjacent to the Port of Bunbury, Ansac is poised for more expansion into the next millennium," the Premier said.
