Release of guide explaining Government concessions
19/10/96
A guide will be available tomorrow explaining State Government concessions and rebates available to Western Australians.
Family and Children's Services Minister Cheryl Edwardes said the guide detailed the wide variety of concessions and discounts offered in areas such as health, education, housing, water, travel and energy.
The comprehensive brochure covered savings on council rates, camping fees, fishing licences, dental treatment, rent and much more.
It clearly set out eligibility requirements for concessions to the value of more than $400 million on services and activities.
"Some families, young people, seniors and others with special needs require special consideration if they are to contribute fully to our community," Mrs Edwardes said.
"For this reason, State Government departments and agencies offer concessions on essential goods and services and some recreational activities.
"The concessions guide will help people take advantage of concessions which can improve their standard of living."
Mrs Edwardes said the guide was one of the most popular publications produced by Family and Children's Services.
The guide would be distributed via the Sunday Times TV Extra magazine tomorrow.
The Minister urged people to pull out the guide and keep it as a handy reference.
Copies will also be available from Family and Children's Services' offices State-wide and from the Department of Social Security.
