Reminder that Govt schools open on Tuesday, January 30
24/1/96
It is back to school next Tuesday for more than 250,000 young Western Australians as Government schools open their doors to start the 1996 school year.
Education Minister Colin Barnett said parents needed to note that schools would open on Tuesday, January 30, and not Wednesday, as some calendars and diaries had published mistakenly.
"While all schools were informed last year that January 30 would be the first day of school, it has been confusing for parents to read a different date in some diaries and calendars," Mr Barnett said.
"The opening day of WA schools was previously linked to a Monday public holiday for Australia Day in January."
"Now that Western Australians officially celebrate Australia Day on January 26, school resumes on the Monday immediately following January 26 for teachers and the Tuesday for students."
