21/10/98
All residents affected by the recent closure of the Golden Mile Youth Hostel have been placed in alternative accommodation Family and Children's Services Minister, Mrs Rhonda Parker said today.
The hostel, which accommodates 24 young homeless people, was forced to close after it was unable to form a management committee.
"Negotiations are progressing well for another provider in the Goldfields to take over the service until a permanent service can be established.
"Family and Children's Services will provide $197,613 a year to ensure that all those who would have received accommodation from the Golden Mile Youth Hostel receive it," Mrs Parker said.
The Minister said she was pleased that the department was able to move quickly to provide alternative accommodation and bring about a long-term solution to the situation.
"I have been advised that staff employed by the Golden Mile Youth Hostel will receive their entitlements and their needs will be considered during the negotiation of the interim arrangement," Mrs Parker said.
