Robert Gillam appointed Geraldton Port Authority chairman
15/2/95
Geraldton Port Authority has a new chairman, board member Robert Gillam.
Transport Minister Eric Charlton announced Mr Gillam's appointment today.
Mr Gillam, a 47-year-old farmer, has served on the GPA Board for the past eight years and fills a vacancy created through the resignation of Ian Bogle.
"While Mr Bogle is standing down from the chair, he has agreed to continue serving on the board for the next six months," Mr Charlton said.
"This will give the board continuity until Mr Bogle completes his term as chairman of the Western Australian Port Authorities' Association. His term on WAPAA expires in July, this year.
"Mr Bogle has chaired the authority since 1975 and has been a member of the board since 1969. During that time, he has had an immense influence on the port's performance."
Mr Charlton also announced the appointment of two local businessmen to the GPA board.
Michael Burrows, 51, and Robert Ramage, 56, were appointed for one-year terms. They replace Fred Connell, who has served with distinction on the board since January 1975, and Raj Mavath, who resigned due to business commitments.
Mr Charlton said both had wide experience in many aspects of business in Geraldton and would make a strong contribution to the Authority's operations.
