The State Government has sold the former State Supply Disposal Centre site in Welshpool to Automotive Holdings Group Pty Ltd and Gilpin Park Pty Ltd for more than $4 million.

Works and Services Minister Mike Board today announced the property, located on the eastern side of 21 Pilbara Street, had been sold by public tender to the highest bidder for $4,010,000.

The site was formerly used by the Government to auction its surplus vehicles, goods and chattels and unclaimed stolen property.

Mr Board said the Government's auctioning service had now been contracted to the private sector and it no longer required the property.

"The sale has been made possible by the Coalition Government's reform program which has involved major restructuring and efficiency improvements within the Department of Contract and Management Services," Mr Board said.

"The private sector is now providing the services, which were once based at the Welshpool site, making it financially prudent for the Government to sell the disposal centre property."

Chesterton International managed the sale of the Welshpool site, which attracted strong interest.

Chesterton International's industrial sales and leasing consultant Wayne Chorley said several developers and owner-occupiers submitted tenders to buy the property.

The site covers almost seven hectares and is situated about nine kilometres south-east of the Perth CBD.

Mr Board said the sale of this property showed another positive aspect of the State Government's contracting out program.
