Scheme to connect Medina homes to sewerage brought forward
4/7/96
A $1.6 million project to provide sewerage connections to more than 300 Medina homes has been brought forward to fit in with work being done under the 'New Kwinana Project', Australia's largest residential upgrade and beautification program.
Water Resources Minister Roger Nicholls said the sewerage work, which was being carried out under the State Government's $800 million Infill Sewerage Program, would service the houses bounded by Thomas Road, Gilmore Avenue, Hoyle Road and Ridley Way.
It would begin this month and be finished by Christmas.
The Infill Sewerage Program was expected to provide sewerage to 110,000 homes over a 10-year period.
The new sewerage services in Medina would provide a major redevelopment opportunity for the area, where more than 1,300 Homeswest properties would be upgraded under the six-year $200 million 'New Kwinana Project'.
Mr Nicholls said he had been informed that the sewerage would be a real boon for residents of Ridley Green, who would now be able to apply to the Kwinana Town Council for duplex or even triplex developments.
The area contained larger, old-style blocks. which could provide exciting development opportunities.
Mr Nicholls said that the Water Corporation was pleased to have been able to co-operate with the 'New Kwinana Project' to bring benefits to hundreds of Medina residents.
