Site at Warnbro purchased for WA's first Lutheran school
29/5/96
A site for the first Lutheran school in Western Australia has been purchased from Homeswest at Warnbro, south of Rockingham, Housing Minister Graham Kierath announced today.
The four hectare site on the corner of Currie and Swallowtail Roads is in a Homeswest developed residential subdivision of Warnbro and was earmarked for a school in the subdivision plans.
Mr Kevin Kempin, chairman of the taskforce charged with establishing the school said that the site was 'an answer to our prayers'.
"It is absolutely a magnificent location for the school - only half a kilometre from the ocean, alongside the brand new Warnbro High School, near other community facilities and amongst thriving new residential areas," he said.
Representatives from the Lutheran Church today signed papers with Mr Kierath to formalise purchase of the site.
Mr Kempin said that the school, to be called the 'Living Waters Lutheran Primary School', would be open for its first students in 1997.
The school would cater for pre-primary to year seven.
Mr Kempin said that although this was a first for WA there were 74 other Lutheran church schools in other States.
"The school will be have a Lutheran Christian ethos and will accept students from all denominations," Mr Kempin said.
Mr Kierath said the Government, through Homeswest, was happy to see local residents have more choice in the schools available to them.
"We are pleased with the sale of the land and wish the taskforce every success with their new endeavour," he said.
Mr Kempin said that financial help for the establishment of the school has been provided by the Commonwealth Government through the Association of Independent Schools and the WA Government via the WA Office of Non-Government Education.
